Sculpture Project
The Incorporation has sponsored a sculpture to be created of Saint Mungo, Glasgow's patron saint. The sculptor, Roddy McDowell is a stonemason by trade and the Incorporation sponsored Roddy to attend a degree course in London to enable him to become a sculptor.
The stone which will form the finished sculpture is Portland stone and is a white limestone. The delivered weight of the stone was 7 tonne.
Prior to carving the stone, Roddy created a one and a quarter life sized clay model to enable him to lift dimensions of the finished stone sculpture.
The images below illustrate the progress of the sculpture, more images will be added periodically.
