Historic Agreement between the Incorporation of Masons of Glasgow and the Worshipful Company of Masons of London.
On 2nd November 2017, at the Livery Dinner in London, the Incorporation of Masons of Glasgow and the Worshipful Company of Masons of London signed a Memorandum of Understanding whereby both parties agreed to work in close harmony to:
Both organisations have been in existence for centuries and this is the first time on record that both have agreed to work closely together in a formal way. Legend has it that the Incorporation of Masons of Glasgow can trace their origins to 1057 when King Malcolm III gave them a Royal Charter.
This is not the first and certainly will not be the last strategic alliance between the Incorporation of Masons and other like-minded bodies. City of Glasgow College, Kelvin College and South Lanarkshire Colleges are a few of the education establishments that they work closely with. Historic Scotland and Learn Direct and Build are also important partners which they are proud to be associated with.
David McLaren, the present Deacon of the Incorporation of Masons has ambitions to expand working with others for the benefits of the tradespeople and citizens of Glasgow.

- promote education, training and professional development in the craft of stonemasonry for 13-16 year olds.
- support charitable activities that maintain the stone heritage of both England and Scotland in a socially and environmentally sustainable way.
- support the stone industry in so far as it advances public education and the character of the built environment through stone and the craft of stonemasonry.
- Advocate in all aspects of the stonemasons craft as the parties jointly deem appropriate.
