A new gatepost finial was installed at Pollokshields Burgh Hall on Saturday 23 March 2024. This was a collaborative project between the City of Glasgow College and The Incorporation of Masons of Glasgow to reinstate a finial on a gatepost that had been destroyed due to being blown off in a gale at the entrance to Maxwell Park.

It was initiated from a request by Ex Deacon Convener of the Trades House of Glasgow and Past Deacon of the Incorporation of Masons of Glasgow Jack Steele. Jack was the chairman of the Pollokshields Burgh Hall Trust until his untimely death last year.

Finial on Gate Post

The finial was installed onto the gatepost by Past Deacon John Brown, Anthony Cameron and Malcolm Brown.  Past Deacon John oversaw the whole project and we are grateful for his professional support.

        The Students

The Locharbriggs red sandstone finial was carved in the college by two stonemasonry students William Simpson and Peter McLuskie under the supervision of lecturers Anthony Cameron and Daniel McFadden.
