Candlemas Court 2019
The Merry Mason’s Candlemas Court was again a superb evening which started as by ancient tradition with a Court Meeting where, Tom Monteith was re-elected as Clerk to the Incorporation of Masons.
After the short meeting and some other business was conducted, those attending the Court joined the non-Incorporation of Mason’s guests in the Saloon where the enjoyed a fine evening of entertainment.
Past Deacon Iain Smith had arranged for two young musicians from Traditional Music Degree course from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in conjunction with the National Piping Centre here in Glasgow. The young men in question were Alastair MacDonald on the accordion and Rory Matheson accompanying Alastair on the piano. The music was all Scottish traditional and new pieces, one which was written by Alastair was particularly enjoyed by all present. Anyone wishing to hire the young artists can contact them by email at: [email protected]
The evening had an extra element in the form of stonemason Karen Gemmell who had been unable to come to the Deacon’s Choosing Dinner to receive her membership of the Incorporation and praise for being a recipient of the Lady McDonald Bursary. Karen had an excellent reason for being unable to attend the Choosing Dinner as she was in Cape Town, South Africa representing her country in the National tug-of-war team where she along with the other members of the team won a gold medal. Karen is a fourth year student studying stonemasonry at City of Glasgow College and when she is not at College, she works for the National Trust of Scotland.
A raffle was also drawn near the end of the evening and many a Merry Mason returned home with a bottle of wine or spirits or some other prize.
As Deacon Convener Tom McInally was unable to attend the evening, the Collector of the House, Ken Dalgleish stood in his place and expressed his pleasure in attending such a pleasant evening.
